Derek-A Moment in Time

Derek is my nephew and, although only a Freshman at Florida State majoring in musical theater, has quite a list of parts and pieces in his repertoire. He has been acting and singing and dancing for as long as I can remember. One of my greatest joys as an uncle and a father was watching him take a curtain call with my son after performing in Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing." I wept.
I was able to capture a portrait session with him back in 2012 when I was just learning my camera. He gave me, as I recall, at least two full hours of time. Giverny Fitness Studio, here in the greater metropolis of Warsaw, allowed us to use their space for the session. This pic was one of many I took that day. I played around with it to give it a sort of painterly quality that I really like. Someday, I hope to be able to actually paint portraits like this one but, for now, I'll stick to landscapes. Photography, on the other hand, is something I CAN do right now. And I was very happy I had camera in hand on this day.
